This photograph was taken in freezing November weather in a busy park, in the
centre of the artist's Italian hometown of Padua. The model had to be draped in
a blanket until the last moment since there was a very real possibility of being arrested.
To add to this, the shoot was a race against time: "A few days before and we would have
no leaves on the ground, and a few days later they would fall from the tree," the artist explains.
The yellow-leaved ginkgo Biloba tree is as spiritually significant as it
is beautiful. Incredibly, it dates back around 250 million years to a small area of
China. "The ginkgo leaf is the symbol of the Urasenke school
of Japanese tea ceremony," Kesho reveals, "and its seeds are considered the food of Buddha."
Artist Hikari Kesho is better
known as the famous Italian fashion photographer Alberto Lisi, and was inspired
by his love of Japanese culture to take a Japanese name for his artistic persona. He chose the name 'Hikari Kesho' because roughly translated it means 'beauty
made by light'. He is a master in the Japanese bondage art form known as 'Shibari',
and personally ties all his models.
This much-admired artwork showcased in an array of international
exhibitions including the 2012 Biennial Photofest in Texas and the Lisbon
Fetish Weekend. It is sold exclusively by PurePossession.
