Butterfly Koi

COMMENTS

Kesho was inspired to create Butterfly Koi whilst jogging past this piece of graffiti. "The butterfly koi is so called because of her beautiful colours and the way she moves in the water, as if she's flying," he explains, "just like the carp painted on this wall. In Japanese culture Koi carp have strong mystical connotations, so it seemed perfect to create a Japanese style suspension here."

The model is a friend of the artist's daughter who was at the time a student, and this was her first experience of both shibari and modeling. She has since graduated and now works as an architect.

Butterfly Koi was exhibited across Italy and the world including at the 'Contemporary Art of Shibari' exhibition at the 2012 Biennial Fotofest in Houston, Texas, and at 'Lisbon fetish weekend' in Portugal. A huge print of it was hung during an exhibition on a wall in Padua's historic city center in front of the Scrovegni Chapel, which contains frescoes by the legendary medieval artist Giotto.
